Garage Door Opener Types

Garage door openers differ in drive mechanism, noise characteristics, maintenance needs, and compatibility with the door and garage layout.

Chain drive

Chain-drive openers use a metal chain to move the trolley. They are common and can be more mechanically audible than some alternatives.

Belt drive

Belt-drive openers use a reinforced belt and are often chosen where quieter operation matters.

Some systems use a threaded drive or other mechanisms. Compatibility and service needs vary by model.
