Garage Door Won’t Open

A door that will not open can have a simple control or power issue, but it can also indicate a failed spring, cable, opener, or binding door.

Safe observations

• Check whether the opener has power
• Try the wall control if a remote is not responding
• Look for a visibly broken spring or loose cable without touching it
• Notice whether the door starts to lift and then stops

If the door is unusually heavy or a spring appears separated, see spring repair. If it is crooked, stop and see cable repair.
